International Community

Japanese students sample Australian culture on study tours

QUT International College (QUTIC) recently hosted study groups from Ritsumeiken and Meijo Universities in Japan, continuing to build strong connections with the international community.

Ritsumeiken University Study Tour

QUT International College welcomed the first group from Ritsumeiken University who visited the College for four weeks and undertook an English language program and IT project.

The program involved a visit to Cutting Edge Post – an innovative and creative company providing commercial post-production in Australia and overseas.

The students also visited Mincom – a Queensland-grown IT exporter to learn about the company’s software solution products and how they successfully expanded and operate around the world.

The Japanese students attended a Queensland Reds Rugby Union football match at Suncorp Stadium and were very enthusiastic in their support of Queensland, but were sadly disappointed when the Reds lost the match in the final minutes.

Meijo University Study Tour

QUTIC also hosted two groups of students from the Faculty of Human Studies from Meijo University.

As part of their studies at Meijo University, the students are required to visit another country and learn not only the language, but also experience and broaden their cultural understanding.

While at QUTIC, the students participated in a range of activities that included visiting Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary on the Gold Coast, Yeronga State Primary School to participate in a cultural exchange day and Hilltop Gardens in Normanby, where students spent the afternoon interacting with the residents.

Students also participated in the Aboriginal Experience at North Pine Country Market in Caboolture where they painted boomerangs, learnt Aboriginal dancing, held a giant snake, spotted wild koalas and played the didgeridoo.

QUT International College offers a range of academic and language focused programs that offer pathways into degree programs at QUT and other Australian universities. QUT International College
