Study Abroad students bid farewell to life in Australia

QUT recently farewelled its first semester study abroad students at a function held at KGB Urban.

Students and QUT International staff celebrated what was a highly successful and exciting semester for all, with over 250 students from 15 different countries enrolling in the program.

Christine Boecke from the University of Vermont in Massachusetts described her time in Australia as a truly amazing experience.

"The teaching style was great and the advisors were really helpful," she said.

QUT's Study Abroad program gives students the opportunity to study for one or two semesters at one of Australia's leading universities. The chance to live abroad while earning credit for their degree back home provides students with a career advantage, as well as the chance to develop an international network of friends.

For Norwegian student Ingeborg Hagen, the diversity of culture at QUT stood out.

"It was so easy to meet new people, not just from Australia, but students from all over the world," she said.

Highlights of the students' time in Australia included weekend trips away, the student social life and the opportunity to choose from more than 300 pre-approved study units from a range of faculties.

"In tutorials, we discussed examples from the real world, which I really appreciated because it's what I want to hear," said Chrissy Lavery, from the University of South Carolina.

The personalised service from the QUT Study Abroad team before and after the students' arrival was also praised.

"I have received great support from the International Study Abroad Office. The staff are really friendly and are always willing to help," said Manuel Wiesche, from the Germany University of Munster.
