If you’re an aspiring film director you could soon be joining fellow students who are turning their movie ambitions into ‘reel’ success.
Current and graduate QUT student filmmakers have scooped the pool at two recent big-name filmmaking competitions.
The Queensland New Filmmakers Awards (QNFA) was whitewashed by last year's QUT film and television graduate Tom Noakes and his classmates, while QUT students took out the trifecta at last weekend's Fast Film competition.
Mr Noakes' short film Julian won six awards, including Most Popular Film, Best Overall Film and Most Original Script.
Another great talent at the QNFA was QUT graduate Lucy Gaffy, whose film The Majestic won Best New Female Filmmaker, Best Tertiary Documentary and Excellence in Editing.
Second-year student Dylan Wiehahn won Most Promising New Filmmaker, and graduate Jan Kielland won Most Outstanding Cinematographer.
QUT filmmaking lecturer Helen Yeates said the QNFA wins were well deserved.
"They were so multi-talented to win across such a range of categories. There was a crucible of creativity. We've watched them and nurtured them," Ms Yeates said.
Present and former QUT students Killian Maguire, Luke Pratt and Jenna Dawkin also succeeded at the Fast Film competition, winning the top three prizes.
In another success, QUT PhD student Michael Noonan's documentary Unlikely Travellers was voted in the top ten of the most popular films screened this year at Brisbane International Film Festival.
